Molly Ratermann has emerged as an award-winning producer, director and writer since first hitting the festival circuit in 2015. The San Francisco born filmmaker has gained international attention for creating dark comedies which shed light on important social issues.

Produced under her Little Hand Productions banner, Ratermann’s extended short SUICIDE, smashes notions about mental health and delivers a refreshing perspective on suicide, the LGBT community, and complex female characters. Earning 20 awards, screening at over 25 festivals worldwide and being selected for Filmmaker Spotlight by ShortsTV, the film gained distribution on DirecTV and other platforms throughout the U.S. and Europe, and is currently available on Amazon. Her follow-up 8-minute short, LIZZIE LOST, deals with the complexity of unrequited gay-straight love, isolation, and a life changing cancer diagnosis. The film has garnered accolades, as well as fans, for her daring approach to a complicated subject.

Looking to expand her storytelling into the episodic realm, Ratermann went on to direct the 4-episode dramedy web series FOR YOUR BIRTHDAY, which dives into the realm of inner family matters. Continuing on this episodic journey, Ratermann was hired to direct the 6-episode comedy-drama web series COMMUNE. Set for release later this year, the series encompasses a modern commune, highlighting social issues in the African-American community and flaws in the judicial system.

Ratermann has also proven to be a skilled artist in front of the camera; having trained in Los Angeles and New York at Seydways Studios, Upright Citizens Brigade and Beverly Hills Playhouse. She earned ‘Best Actress’ awards at the LA Film Awards, Studio City Int. Film Festival, International Independent Film Festival, Indiefest, and the Actors Awards, among others. Her performance in SUICIDE has been heralded as “organic, profound and touching” (Actors Awards) and “immediately humorous and lovable...10/10” (LA Film Awards).

Currently, Ratermann is in-development to direct and star in the dark comedy feature film PEARL, being produced in partnership with Buffalo 8 Films (Little Men, Rodney King). She is also developing the unconventional WWII feature, MESSAGE IN A BOTTLE, in which she will star and produce along with Studio Soho Films (Mum's List, Pilli) with support from Lypsinc Post (Collete, My Cousin Rachel) in London.
